Meet people2people: Arielle Sodowick

John Doe • December 6, 2015

In this edition of Meet people2people, we're talking to Temporary Specialist Recruitment Consultant Arielle Sodowick. Arielle is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA and graduated from American University in Washington, D.C., with a degree in Business Administration and a minor in Psychology. She has held positions at the British Embassy and the Embassy of Australia's Trade Commission, where she learned about recruitment and business development. After graduating university, she moved to New York City for a position in retail management. Following a personal dream to move to Australia and establish herself abroad, she travelled to Sydney and joined people2people.

How did you start working in recruitment?

Back in the U.S., I worked at the British Embassy as a recruitment coordinator and was able to assist with internal recruitment for the business – I always enjoyed learning about people's stories and matching people to current vacancies. I also assisted with recruitment when working as an assistant manager for a large retail department store, and it was always a part of the job that I enjoyed. When I moved to Australia, I found people2people and was introduced to the agency side of things and life as a recruiter for temporary services, something my fast paced job in retail definitely prepared me for!

What's your most valuable interview tip?

I am always really impressed when a candidate follows up on our meeting with a 'thank you for your time' email or requests a client's email address to do something similar. It differentiates them from others and really shows how motivated they are.

What's the most interesting role you've recruited?

A part-time cosmetic surgery sales consultant.

What are the main qualities you look for in a resume?

It really depends on the type of role, but I always suggest that candidates make every sentence that supports their roles significant and that they include a section under each role that highlights key achievements. This really demonstrates that the person is results oriented and was very invested in their past positions.

What do you think makes people2people different?

I think people2people encourages each consultant to have their own unique style and develop their own personal brand. Also, I think people2people is very up to speed on technology and social media – which is essential nowadays!
