About the role
As a Senior Policy Advisor, you’ll take ownership of major pieces of policy work — from scoping and analysis through to producing Cabinet papers, Regulatory Impact Statements, briefigs for Ministers, working on Bills and supporting legislative processes.
You’ll collaborate across multiple agencies and stakeholders, helping to shape strategic advice that drives positive outcomes. You’ll also play an important role in mentoring less experienced advisors and contributing to the development of a high-performing, supportive policy team.

What you’ll bring |
Must-have experience:
- A policy 'generalist' ie, a strong background in public policy analysis and options development in the public sector, providing Policy advice to a Minister; at least 2–3 years’ experience at a Senior Policy Advisor level.
- Demonstrated experience leading end-to-end policy projects — from analysis and consultation through to final advice and implementation.
- Proven ability to hold the pen on Cabinet papers, Regulatory Impact Statements, and briefings for the Minister.
- Confident communicator who builds trusted relationships across teams and agencies.
- A collaborative, can-do attitude with the ability to navigate complex and sometimes ambiguous environments.
- Experience mentoring or coaching junior staff.
- Understanding of economics / applying economic frameworks to policy work
- Experience with legislative (primary or secondary) &/or regulatory policy
High-impact policy work with tangible legislative outcomes, close collaboration across teams, and a supportive, people-focused leader.
This is a full-time permanent position based in Wellington.
