The business has made significant investments in lifting its health and safety capability, and this newly created role is central to driving that forward.

Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with the People & Capability team, this role is responsible for setting and embedding the organisation’s health and safety strategy. You'll partner across the network to influence a proactive, accountable safety culture — one where safety is part of the everyday mindset.
This is a hands-on, leadership-level position that combines strategic planning with practical implementation. You’ll work across the full H&S remit, from critical risk and assurance through to reporting, coaching, and incident response.

Ngā kawenga | What You’ll Be Doing
  • Lead the development and rollout of a consistent, fit-for-purpose H&S strategy
  • Maintain an up-to-date risk register with clear ownership and mitigation tracking
  • Support site managers with investigations, reporting and corrective actions
  • Deliver health and safety education, engagement initiatives and assurance checks
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and frontline teams to strengthen ownership
  • Monitor performance and share meaningful insights and metrics
  • Be a visible presence across the network — you’ll be on the road regularly (approx. 2 site visits per week + ad hoc travel for incidents or follow-ups)

You’re a confident and collaborative safety professional who thrives on creating practical change. You can set the direction, bring people along with you, and aren’t afraid to get stuck in where needed. You’re equally comfortable influencing at CEO level and coaching branch managers on the ground.
You’ll bring:
  • Proven experience in a senior H&S role, ideally with multi-site or operational exposure
  • A strong understanding of NZ’s H&S legislation, frameworks and critical risk thinking
  • Experience designing or embedding organisation-wide safety programmes
  • Excellent interpersonal, coaching and facilitation skills
  • Strong analytical and reporting capability
  • The ability to travel regularly across the network
