Policy Analysts

Tēnei Tūranga | About the Role
We’re recruiting multiple permanent Policy Analyst and Senior Policy Analyst roles within a large public sector agency that’s driving change across a wide portfolio of work.
These Wellington-based roles sit in a high-impact policy group focused on big P policy, legislation, governance and accountability. You’ll work on large-scale, system-level issues that require strong analysis, an understanding of how government works, and a desire to influence the levers that shape policy outcomes across Aotearoa.

There’s plenty of variety, complexity and room to grow — whether your strengths lie in legislative processes, numbers-driven funding models, equity and population policy or strategic advice.

Mōhou ake | About You

We’re looking for public Policy professionals with two or more years’ experience in policy analysis and development in a central government agency, ideally in a large or complex environment. You’ll need to understand the policy development lifecycle and how to operate within the Machinery of Government.
What you’ll bring:

  • Strong analysis and or policy development skills
  • Confidence working with ambiguity or across broad scopes
  • Experience providing advice to Ministers, even if not leading the work
  • Solid interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to take ownership of your work
Candidates with experience in legislation, regulatory frameworks, or public sector funding/budget processes will be especially well-suited, but we’re open to different policy backgrounds.

You'll be based in Wellington; and be a NZ Resident or Citizen.

Ko wai mātou | Who We Are

This is a large public agency that’s been given a clear directive: act boldly and focus on impact. You’ll join a high-trust environment where people are empowered to lead their own work, without endless layers of sign-off.
The breadth of work here means there’s real flexibility to shape your role around your strengths and interests — whether that’s technical policy, strategic direction, or cross-agency collaboration. If you're looking for meaningful work, smart colleagues, and variety in your day-to-day, this is it.
