We are seeking an experienced National HR Manager
to lead the Employment and Industrial Relations strategy for the Group, while heading up the HR Business Partnering function. This is a senior leadership role reporting to the Chief People Officer and sitting within the People & Culture leadership team.
You’ll take ownership of collective bargaining, union relationships, and high-level ER strategy while guiding the business on pragmatic, commercially focused people solutions. This is a role that combines deep technical ER/IR expertise with business acumen, as you’ll be a key advisor to senior leaders and a driver of HR projects that improve processes and create consistency across multiple brands and operating environments.
Ngā kawenga | Key Responsibilities
- Lead and implement the Group’s Employment and Industrial Relations strategy
- Act as lead advocate in collective bargaining (multiple agreements and unions)
- Build and maintain productive relationships with unions, employee representatives, and legal advisors
- Provide leadership and oversight for complex ER case management, mediation, and ERA representation
- Lead and coach a team of HR Business Partners and Advisors
- Contribute to HR strategy and deliver projects to improve processes and systems
- Ensure compliance with legislation and embed best-practice ER frameworks
To be successful, you will bring:
- Proven experience in HR leadership with a strong ER/IR focus within a large, unionised workforce
- Confidence as a lead advocate at the bargaining table and ability to navigate complex union relationships
- Sound experience representing employers in mediation and ERA processes
- Commercially pragmatic mindset with strong influencing and negotiation skills
- Excellent communication and relationship-building capability at senior levels
- Resilience, adaptability, and a collaborative leadership style
- A tertiary qualification in HR, Law, or related discipline

- Salary $160000 - $190000
