people2people is pleased to announce that we are exclusively partnering with Justice Connect as they seek their next Head of Specialist Legal Programs (based in Sydney OR Melbourne).

The organisation
Justice Connect exists to make legal support accessible to all. They design and deliver high-impact programs that connect people and community organisations with free legal help, while driving systemic reform to create fairer laws and a more just society.

With a presence in both Melbourne and Sydney, Justice Connect is a respected not-for-profit known for innovation, collaboration, and impact. Their Specialist Legal Programs team delivers two nationally recognised initiatives:

  • Seniors Law: integrating legal and health justice partnerships to address elder abuse.
  • Self-Representation Law: supporting people navigating complex courts and tribunals, including through the Domestic Building Legal Service, Federal Self-Representation Service, and Victorian Self-Representation Service.
Justice Connect offers a hybrid workplace, meaningful work with measurable outcomes, and a values-driven culture where leadership and inclusion are at the heart of everything they do.

The role
Reporting directly to the CEO, the Head of Specialist Legal Programs will provide strategic leadership across Seniors Law and Self-Representation Law, ensuring both programs are high-quality, accessible, and scalable. This is a key executive leadership role that combines strategy, people leadership, and sector impact.

Key accountabilities include:
  • Driving program growth and innovation to improve outcomes for older people, self-represented litigants, and communities.
  • Strengthening partnerships with health, aged care, courts, tribunals, and regulators.
  • Embedding human-centred design, digital transformation, and lived experience in service delivery.
  • Leading a team of managers and lawyers, fostering a safe, inclusive, and high-performing culture.
  • Managing budgets, workforce planning, risk, and funding relationships with government and philanthropic partners.
  • Contributing to Justice Connect’s broader strategic and reform agenda as a member of the executive leadership team.
A detailed position description can be provided upon request.

The candidate
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and attributes:
  • A law degree and eligibility to practise in Australia (preferred).
  • 5+ years post-admission experience, ideally in public interest, civil justice, elder law, or community legal practice.
  • Proven leadership in program design, service delivery, evaluation, and growth.
  • Experience collaborating with courts, regulators, funders, and community partners.
  • Strong track record managing diverse teams, budgets, and funding arrangements.
  • A people-first leadership style that balances cultural reset, performance accountability, and inspiration.
  • Alignment with Justice Connect’s social justice mission and values.

What’s on offer
  • Permanent, 0.8 FTE (30 hours/week) senior leadership role. Flexible work arrangement – choose to spread the 30 hours over five days or compress them into fewer days.
  • $150k base salary + 17.5% Leave loading + 12% Super.
  • Hybrid working model (40% in-office monthly) with offices in Melbourne (Collins Street) and Sydney (Liverpool Street).
  • Opportunity to shape and scale nationally recognised programs with lasting social impact.
  • Be part of a collaborative, innovative, and values-driven executive team.
  • Exceptional annual leave policy (up to 5 weeks), as well as personal leave, cultural leave, extra Christmas leave, and study leave.
