Financial Controller | Trading Firm | $180k–$220k + super + Bonus | Sydney
Are you a hands-on Financial Controller
with experience in trading, market making, or financial markets? This is a rare opportunity to join a fast-paced, high-performing global trading firm that’s expanding across the APAC region.
You’ll play a critical role in owning the full finance function for the local entity, partnering directly with senior stakeholders across global finance, tax, compliance, and trading operations. The Opportunity
- Take ownership of the APAC financial function for a global proprietary trading firm
- Lead a small, high-performing team in Sydney while working closely with the CFO (US-based) and Head of Global Tax
- Join a company known for its investment in technology, automation, and quantitative trading strategies
- Be part of an exciting growth journey as the firm expands into new markets
- Oversee month-end close and full financial reporting across multiple entities
- Maintain accurate GL, P&L and balance sheet reporting
- Ensure compliance with Australian tax and regulatory requirements
- Lead audits, budgeting, transfer pricing, and intercompany reconciliations
- Drive process improvement and financial control development
- Act as a key finance business partner across teams and time zones
- Must-have:
Experience working in a trading firm, proprietary trading house, or market-making environment
(Candidates from public practice must have audited trading or financial markets clients to be considered) - Strong technical accounting background, CA or CPA qualified
- Proven managerial experience in finance or accounting teams
- Understanding of Australian tax compliance and reporting
- Hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves approach — you love getting into the detail
- High attention to detail, strong communication skills, and able to work across global time zones
- Salary range: $180,000 – $220,000 base + super + performance bonus
- KPI-based bonus linked to team and company performance
- Sydney CBD location
- 5 days in office for the first 6 months, then hybrid (up to 2 WFH days)
