Dates: Monday 8 February – Friday 19 February 2027 Training Day: Monday 8 February Location: Training and internship will take place in Perth CBD and inner suburbs. Applicants must be available for the full internship.
About the Program
Step beyond the classroom and experience family law where it matters most: helping people navigate some of life's most significant challenges. The FLPA Summer Internship Program offers law students from 2nd year up, the opportunity to work alongside highly regarded family law practitioners and gain first-hand exposure to real legal practice. Participants will develop a practical understanding of client work, advocacy, court processes, and the professional judgement required to succeed in family law. More than just work experience, the program provides meaningful mentorship, valuable industry connections, and an inside look at a rewarding and dynamic area of legal practice. If you are curious, compassionate, and interested in building a career that combines legal expertise with genuine human impact, this internship is ideal. Perfect for students who are genuinely interested in family law and keen to understand the realities of day-to-day legal practice.

What the Internship Includes
This voluntary internship offers students authentic exposure to the daily operations of a family law firm. Each student will be allocated to one firm for the duration of the internship. Students will have the opportunity to: Observe how family law firms operate and manage matters ||| Shadow lawyers in their day-to-day work ||| Attend court hearings ||| Develop an understanding of the responsibilities, professional disciplines, and workflow of family lawyers ||| Meet with judicial officers at the Family Court and find out more about life on the Bench The program is designed to emphasise practical learning, professional development, and insightful observation, giving students a well-rounded and realistic perspective of family law practice.
