Job Brief – Policy Role (including Legislative Policy)
This role will sit within a busy policy team responsible for delivering advice and solutions on significant public sector priorities, including work with a legislative dimension. The successful candidate will take ownership of complex policy projects from scoping to delivery, working closely with senior leaders, cross-agency stakeholders, and Ministers’ offices. They will provide high-quality written and verbal advice on issues that are often high-profile, politically sensitive, and time critical.
The work will involve analysing policy problems, developing and assessing options, preparing recommendations supported by robust evidence, and contributing to the development or amendment of legislation. The position requires someone who can operate effectively under pressure, manage multiple workstreams, and quickly build relationships across agencies. A strong ability to distil complex policy and legislative information into clear, fit-for-purpose advice for decision-makers will be essential.
Major Focus Areas:
  • Leading or contributing to key policy projects aligned to government priorities, including identifying problems, developing policy options, and supporting implementation.
  • Drafting Cabinet papers, Ministerial briefings, and legislative documentation, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and legislative requirements.
  • Providing authoritative policy and legislative advice in a fast-paced environment, working collaboratively with colleagues, stakeholders, and Ministers’ offices.
  • Engaging with stakeholders to ensure advice reflects diverse perspectives and is workable in practice.
