Senior Advisor – Ministerial & Governance (Contract)
Central Government Agency | Wellington (Office-Based) Contract duration: start asap (urgent), to end of August 2026
This is an hourly-rate contract for a high-calibre Senior Advisor contractor to join a Ministerial Servicing team in a central government agency in Wellington (office-based).
This contract calls for an established Senior Advisor in Ministerial Services who can operate confidently in a delivery-focused environment, taking ownership of OIA advice, Written Parliamentary Questions (WPQs), and Ministerial correspondence from day one.
About the Role
You’ll take on a key role ensuring the smooth delivery of Ministerial services, including:
- Managing end-to-end delivery of OIA, WPQ, and Ministerial correspondence outputs
- Providing expert-level advice grounded in relevant legislation and Parliamentary frameworks
- Navigating competing demands and immovable deadlines
- Overseeing and contributing to OIA and Ministerial inbox management and workflows
- Providing ad hoc governance secretariat cover when needed
You’ll sit within a well-established team made up of Advisors, Senior Advisors, and Principal Advisors, with clear oversight across each workstream.

- Demonstrated senior experience across OIA, Ministerials, and WPQs in the public sector
- Strong familiarity with legislative requirements (Official Information Act, etc) and Parliamentary processes
- Ability to work autonomously and make decisions without constant guidance
- Level-headed and steady, maintaining performance during high-pressure periods
- Practical and delivery-focused — you spot problems early and take action to resolve them
- Comfortable balancing strategic advice with hands-on execution
- Builds effective relationships and collaborates naturally with stakeholders
