The Firm
A long established mid-tier Western Sydney firm with a dominant Family Law practice of approximately 20. The practice is led by 4 Principals and supported by a structured team of Senior Associates, Associates, Lawyers and support staff. The firm combines a strong private client base with consistent referral work, delivering complex family law matters across parenting, property and financial disputes. Operations are split across Parramatta, CBD and Norwest, with flexibility embedded into how the team works.
The Role
A Principal position within the Family Law team with responsibility for managing and scaling a practice. The role requires ownership of matters, contribution to firm strategy and active involvement in team leadership.
Core responsibilities include running complex files across divorce, parenting and property disputes, maintaining and growing client relationships, mentoring junior lawyers and contributing to revenue growth. There is an expectation of building on an existing practice and leveraging internal referral pipelines.
The role sits within a shifting leadership structure, with a clear opening to step into influence and shape the direction of the practice.
The Candidate
10+ years PQE in Family Law with established technical capability across the full spectrum of family matters. A portable or at least influenceable practice is required. Candidates without this are not competitive. Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor and drive performance within a team. Commercially aware, capable of sustaining billings (c.$200k+) and building a practice through referrals and reputation. Suitable for an established Principal or a Senior Associate/Special Counsel ready to step up, provided they can carry work and clients with them.
