An innovative, purpose-driven social housing organisation is seeking a hands-on legal professional to join its team. Reporting directly to the CFO & Company Secretary, the successful candidate will be the sole in-house legal counsel with opportunities to grow and shape the legal function.
The Role
This broad commercial legal role offers autonomy and variety. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing legal and governance support to the CFO & Company Secretary.
- Managing day-to-day legal operations, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts.
- Overseeing compliance with legislative and regulatory obligations, particularly under the Residential Tenancies Act.
- Handling or supporting NCAT matters (familiarity with NCAT processes preferred).
- Liaising with external counsel: preparing briefs, coordinating advice, and reporting outcomes.
- Supporting corporate governance, Board, and committee requirements.
- Leading or assisting with internal legal and policy projects, including templates, procedures, and compliance systems.
- Managing IP, trade marks, insurance documentation, and general commercial legal matters.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Minimum 3 years PQE, preferably in corporate/commercial law (in-house experience required).
- NSW admission with a current practising certificate.
- Strong understanding of contract law, commercial transactions, ASIC/state government compliance, and social housing legislation.
- Experience in employment relations, WHS, or similar regulatory/compliance areas (highly regarded).
- Exceptional written and verbal communication – able to translate complex legal matters into plain English.
- Comfort working independently while collaborating across teams.
- Pragmatic, approachable, resilient, and highly organised.
- A sense of humour and personable, down-to-earth style is valued.
- Competitive base salary of $140K plus 12% super.
