Financial Accountant



Are you an experienced Accountant looking to step into a meaningful role within the higher education sector? Our client is committed to student success, learning innovation and academic excellence. You will play a key role in managing student financial processes and regulatory reporting across a highly compliant environment.



Key responsibilities



  • Manage student finance transactions including billing, receipting, refunds, adjustments and commission calculations

  • Prepare and reconcile student revenue, receivables and related balance sheet accounts

  • Complete revenue recognition calculations and journals in line with AASB and IFRS

  • Support FEE-HELP, SA-HELP and TCSI regulatory reporting

  • Prepare month-end and year-end schedules and assist with external audits

  • Supervise and mentor junior team members

  • Ensure accurate reconciliation across student systems, payment platforms and the general ledger

  • Partner with Admissions, Student Services and IT to resolve finance matters

  • Support budgeting, forecasting and ad hoc financial analysis

  • Drive process improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency



About you



  • Degree qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline

  • CA or CPA qualified

  • Minimum 4 to 6 years’ experience in financial accounting and reporting in a regulated or complex organisational environment

  • Demonstrated experience in revenue accounting, including reconciliations, journal preparation and revenue recognition in accordance with AASB and IFRS

  • Experience managing student-related financial processes such as tuition billing, receivables, refunds and commission calculations, or equivalent high-volume revenue environments

  • Experience preparing regulatory or statutory reporting within a compliance framework such as HESA, FEE-HELP, TCSI or similar funding and reporting environments

  • Strong balance sheet reconciliation experience and the ability to investigate and resolve discrepancies independently

  • Experience using large ERP systems such as PeopleSoft, Oracle or similar
