How to resign peacefully

How to resign peacefully
Mark Smith:
Jess Hickey, one of our star recruiters from the Melbourne team.

Jess Hickey:
Good afternoon, Mark.

Mark Smith:
How's Melbourne?

Jess Hickey:
Good. It's a bit dreary here, but still a bit hot and humid, not great for the hair, but everything is pumping in Melbourne. We've got the majority of our staff back in the office today after some renovations. Very busy and great vibes here.

Mark Smith:
Fantastic. Now, you've got some great tips for resignation. What have you got?

Jess Hickey:
Certainly, a couple of tips for resigning effectively and productively. First and foremost, check your contract or employment agreement to understand the terms, including notice period and any non-compete period. Triple-check this information before resigning. Second, book a meeting with the relevant party, ideally face-to-face, or as close to it as possible, to discuss your resignation. The employer may want to know the reason for the meeting, so booking it quickly helps. Lastly, have a script for the resignation meeting. Thank your employer for the experience, highlight career moments, communicate logistics, and ask questions about the transition. Bonus tip: always follow up in writing with an email summarizing the discussion.

Mark Smith:
Fabulous! Some real gems in there. How can someone get in touch with you for more tips?

Jess Hickey:
You can find my contact details in the comments. Reach out by phone at 039987439 or via email at jessica.hickey@people2people.com.au. We're a busy office, so if you're looking for opportunities, please get in touch.

Mark Smith:
Great. There was a LinkedIn user's observation about the difficulty in recruiting for technology roles in Melbourne. Any thoughts?

Jess Hickey:
Technology is an emerging market, and demand for tech staff has increased. Make your brief as wide as possible, focusing on the three most important aspects. Identify what you can train on and what you need, making the brief diverse to attract and retain top talent. Hyper competition in technology has led to salary pressure and wage inflation, which will play a big part in recruitment.

Mark Smith:
Thanks, Jess, for joining us and sharing these tips.
