Notice periods and how to keep talent enaged

Notice periods and how to keep talent enaged
Mark: We are now joined by Leanne Lazarus from the Queensland team. G'day Leanne, how are you?

Leanne: I'm very well, Mark. In yourself?

Mark: I'm good. I'm feeling like, you know, this winter has been quite cold and wet here in Sydney, and I've been overeating, so it's starting to appear in my face here a little bit. I've got to really get over that, I think.

Leanne: Well, you're looking very well.

Mark: Thank you. Thank you. So, tell us more about notice periods.

Leanne: What I've been finding is when I've been talking to a lot of my clients, is a number of hiring managers have been experiencing more offer rejections. So, they've gone through that offer stage, and they're rejected straight away because they've got multiple offers on the table or someone's accepted a role and closer to the start date, they either let the client know that they're no longer starting or they just don't start in the role itself. So, it's a very critical topic at the moment around the hiring process.

Mark: It's not over when the offer is accepted.

Leanne: No. I like to work with my clients in the sense of, if it's a four-week notice period, put an activity for each week in place. Not just relying on us as recruiters to do that process but to actually be involved in that process. Whether it be a touch, a call just to touch base and welcome them to the team yourself or whether it be to organize a coffee catch-up two weeks before they start to maybe come to the office and meet some of the team. It creates that sense of engagement.

Mark: It's so important these days. Fantastic tips there. If somebody's watching this and thinking, "I need to get some advice from Leanne on this," whether you're a job seeker or a hiring manager, how would they get in touch?

Leanne: You can get in touch with me on the office number, which is 0731180125 or on my email address, which is leanne.lazarus@people2people.com.

Mark: Fantastic. Always great to have you on P2P Live. Thank you again, Leanne.

Leanne: Thank you so much. See you again soon.
