Get prepared for your salary review

Get prepared for your salary review
Mark Smith: So many people at this time of year are about to go into their salary review time. It's always good to have a chat to somebody if you're about to do that to get some advice, and we're going to get some advice today from Crystal from our Melbourne team. Good afternoon, Crystal.

Crystal Spittal: Good afternoon, Mark. Yes, thank you. As the year comes to an end, employees are looking forward to the end of the year performance review and typically salary review as well. This yearly evaluation offers a chance to highlight your contributions and negotiate a salary that accurately represents your value within the company.

Crystal Spittal: However, it is really important to prepare before going into these reviews and to not go in empty-handed. The first thing you want to do is document your achievements, compile a list of your achievements and contributions throughout the year, highlight specific projects, goals achieved, any other additional responsibilities you've undertaken.

Crystal Spittal: While salary is a significant factor, also consider other non-monetary benefits that might contribute to your overall job satisfaction. Whether that's additional vacation days, flexible work arrangements, professional development opportunities, or health and wellness perks. Be open to discussing alternative compensation packages if a pay rise is not possible.

Crystal Spittal: Overall, if you are prepared, you will go into the chat feeling confident, and we hopefully walk away feeling very happy with how the conversation went as well.

Mark Smith: Yeah, and I think that's really all very good advice. I think things have changed a little bit from a few years ago. It's a much more nuanced conversation these days when you're talking about salaries because it's about a package, it's about purpose, it's about benefits rather than, say, back in the '80s when I first entered the workforce when it was all just about money.

Mark Smith: The other thing I would say too, and I'd be interested to hear what you have to say, Crystal, on this is that a lot of people, they go into a performance review, and it becomes
