Getting Prepared for an Agency Interview

Samantha McCall • August 4, 2019

Being prepared for your interview with your Recruitment Consultant is crucial.

Why? Because it’s like the dress rehearsal. It’s in your best interests to be prepared, you will present the best version of yourself, to enable your recruiter to search for the best job and cultural fit for you.

There are many approaches, which different recruiters apply, from the more relaxed to the highly corporate.

To stand out when meeting with people2people consultants…

  • Dress for the job you want; first impressions count. Corporate, clean tidy clothes which give a good representation of your professionalism and which meets the expectations of your preferred type of employer. At people2people, we can use the interview as a dress rehearsal. Based on how you present yourself on the first interview, we will give you some tips for your job interviews, including your presentation.
  • Allow yourself plenty of time to arrive at your interview. Being late will reduce the time with your recruiter and important information may be overlooked, and it’s not a great start to the process. Missing your interview altogether also isn’t a good look. You may find your interview won’t be rescheduled. Life does sometimes get in the way of appointments, so if you are going to be late or not going to be able to make your appointment, please call your recruiter immediately to reschedule.
  • You have spoken to your recruiter over the phone and then have received an email confirming the interview and your interviewer’s name. Please remember it. A job interview is all about small details. So make sure you check your emails before coming in, so you are a 100% sure with whom you’re meeting.
  • Turn your phone on silent or off. Definitely do not take a call or text during an interview. Recruiters have allocated this time to learn about your work experiences and what you are looking for in your next role. It is best that you have each other’s undivided attention to get the most out of your interview.
  • Do your own research. Have a think about the types of industries that you are interested in and what kinds of employers you would like to work for. If you arrive with some examples, it will give your recruiter a better understanding of where your focus is and hopefully to speed up the process.
