Life as a Recruiter

Samantha White • July 1, 2019

A day in the life of a consultant, and not just any consultant, a recruiter, involves three key parts. Branding, relationship-building and the rewards that come from getting it right.

Yes, recruiting can be rewarding! Starting with a new company can be quite daunting – learning the ways of the business, building meaningful internal and external relationships, putting yourself out there, and earning respect with your co-workers (that can be a full-time job in itself).

  • A vital part of being a 360-degree consultant(working with candidates and clients and managing the full recruitment process) is putting your brand out into the market in a positive light, and networking. There are lots of ways of putting your face to your brand and it is one thing people2people pride themselves on. Instead of the same boring written job ads, we use VideoMyJob – this puts a lot of character and personality into our ads, making the job ad stand out. This also saves potential candidates reading (or not reading) the ad itself.
  • As a recruitment consultant fostering strong, lasting relationships lies at the heart of our day-to-day duties. Learning about our clients, their organisational culture and specific recruitment needs as well as understanding what drives workers in the workplace, enables us to find the right people to fit our clients’ space. In addition to that, we need to know and understand our candidates – what they are looking for and what they want from their next career move?!
  • As a consultant, you learn new skills and build self-confidence. You also have the privilege of assisting candidates land their dream job. Recruitment is fast-paced, demanding and extremely challenging. No two days are ever the same in my role and I love that!

There is so much new information to learn, but if you’re willing to work hard you will see the benefits and the rewards daily. I’m finding it’s very much a “you get out what you put in” business. I have settled into the role and look forward to being part of the p2p team and all the successes to come!

Here’s to a long career of working with you to find the right candidate to fill your role or the right role for you as a candidate.
