The Perks of Being a Recruiter

Kim Padmore • November 19, 2018

“When I grow up, I want to be a recruiter!” – said no child ever.

Not many of us actually grow up with the aspiration of wanting to be a recruitment consultant. In fact, many adults don’t even know what a recruiter even does and that it is an exciting, fulfilling career path. There are many reasons why I love what I do and why I love working at people2people (I came back after two years, they can’t get rid of me!) Here are just a few of the perks of being a recruiter.

Networking

In this industry, the skills you learn (and have to perfect in order to be great at your job) are transferrable for not just other positions but also life skills that you use in everyday situations. Networking is a massive part of our job. Working in recruitment you learn how to build relationships from scratch, how to communicate effectively, how to perfect your elevator pitch and introduce yourself and how to constantly expand on your network. We get to meet and speak to so many new people every single day!

Travel Opportunities

The future of work is agile working and recruitment is a career you can do almost anywhere in the world. I’m lucky enough to have recruited in Sydney, London and now in my hometown, Perth. Being part of people2people also allows me and my colleagues to travel to our other offices across Australia and New Zealand to meet with clients and do our job from wherever we are! We will soon be in Sydney for our people2people Christmas party and next week I’m off to visit our Melbourne office to be part of the SEEK awards!

Positive Impact

There aren’t many positions that allow you to have such a positive impact on people’s lives. We place people in their dream jobs, for companies where the choice to spend their time every day. I recently had feedback from a candidate I placed in a company where I have also placed her team members. She said that people close to her told her that they have never seen her so happy and that she has made lifelong friends in her colleagues.

We also keep in touch with our placed candidates and it is extremely rewarding to see them growing in their careers and to hear about the things that they are able to achieve. Of course, it’s not ALL down to us but it is nice to play a part in matching candidates with clients.

Perks & Bonuses

There are also so many other perks to this job! I’ve been asked many times whether I work on commission only and the answer is no! Depending on where you work, you will earn a generous salary which is enough to live comfortably PLUS a commission structure, so the earning potential is HUGE. Not only that, you are in control of how much you earn. The more you put in, the more you get out! Be rewarded for your efforts.

There are lots of other incentives along the way, at people2people we also run lots of mini competitions where you can win things like days off, champagne, vouchers, trips and much more! Our job isn’t easy but it is extremely rewarding!
