When living in a foreign country, there are some days where you miss home more than others. This past Friday was one of those days for me. Friday July 1st was Canada day! Happy Canada Day to the land of moose, beavers, attractive Prime Ministers, poutine and (unfortunately) Justin Bieber. My people2people team had no idea until I came in with a little Canadian flag and stuck it to my computer screen on Friday morning. Later that day, I went “oot” and “aboot” and when I came back from lunch my entire desk area was scattered with red and white.
They printed out pictures of famous Canadians including Justin Bieber, Justin Trudeau, Alanis Morissette and Celine Dion. A picture of Nickelback would have topped it off, but maybe they will remember that for next year (just kidding).
They played the Canadian national anthem and even bought me some Canadian beer to finish the day with! It is a privilege to work with people who make you feel at home, even when you are 15,000 km’s away.
