In this edition of our Meet people2people series, we chat with Elena Yang, people2people's Financial Accountant. Elena is an experienced professional in both accounting and recruitment. Joining people2people’s finance team in 2011, her primary motivation is to add value to her wide customer group in the recruitment industry, with both internal and external parties.

What's the most challenging part of your job?

Consolidating technical accounting knowledge with real business practice to achieve continuous improvements for both the company and myself, as well as reviewing the business in a bigger picture when doing financial analysis.

Conversely, what's the most rewarding part of your job?

The most rewarding part of my job is the insight I get into the recruitment industry, in particular keeping up-to-date with the accounting market. I also enjoy new system upgrades and implementation experiences.

What do you think is the primary key to career success?

To be a successful accountant, a qualification and a set of traditional technical skills is simply not enough in the modern world. The soft skills, such as business acumen, persuasion,  problem solving and achieving goals congruent with your team, are what really count toward career success.

What do you think makes people2people different?

Innovation – people2people does a great job of embracing new technology.

If you were a superhero, which would you be?

Catwoman, because I love cats and have a cat family of three.

What's your favourite spot in Sydney?

Thornleigh.

Share a picture of the most interesting item on your desk.

I am a classic accountant; I don't have things on my desk as weird as what recruiters have!
