Round 20 Footy Tipping Winner!
Posted by zichuan: July 30, 2009Congratulations to Teresa Chan from Platinum Pursuits, who is this week’s footy tipping winner!
The key pick for Teresa was tipping the Eels. Teresa said she picked them purely because her nephew supported that team. Lucky for some…this blogger had tipped the Bulldogs. Just one of my many poor picks last week…

Posted by Elizabeth: July 28, 2009Having done such a great job for people2people in the past, it was a pleasure to deliver Christina Mitri the news (and the wine!) that she was Round 19’s winner in our footy tipping competition. For those who think winning the weekly prize involves a thorough analysis of previous games, think again. Christina tunes into The Footy Show and quickly jots down their weekly tips! With an office full of mad football fans in her office in North Ryde, Christina plans to share her wine prize amongst friends. Enjoy Christina!

Do you have some up to date information on referees and references?
Posted by the Editor: July 28, 2009Verbal references, usually two, are a fact of business life today, whether you are looking for a temporary or a permanent role. The up to date information you are seeking is to ‘keep them up to date’. This means you need to ensure that your referees relate to your most recent work experience, are easily contactable by land line (not mobile) and are aware you have nominated them as a referee. Remember, referees also move and get new jobs, so you may need to have a few names in reserve for emergencies.
Thankfully, due to social networking sites such as Facebook and business networking sites such as Linked In, this has made keeping in touch a little easier. If your referee has changed their job since you worked with them, advise them that the caller will also have to verify their previous place of work where you worked together. Being up to date should fast track your vital job offer!

Round 18 Weekly Winner
Posted by zichuan: July 28, 2009While people2people is all about investing in people’s careers, it is clear that some of our clients, in particular Tim Yeates from Degremont, do not invest similarly in their footy tipping. Despite being the round 19 weekly winner, Tim freely admits he invests about 10 seconds each week in choosing his tips. While Tim is a Rabbitoh’s supporter, his tip for the grand final is St George vs Melbourne with Wayne Bennett’s Dragons to be the victors. Let’s see if his guessing is as accurate as it was in round 18. Congratulations Tim!

Round 17 winner
Posted by zichuan: July 16, 2009Congratulations to Glenn MacPherson from Veda Advantage, round 17’s winner! In a short round the odds were looking better for the field but it was Glenn who fended off a number of others with a perfect round by picking the closest margin in what he could only describe as a “pure fluke”.
With Origin 3 out of the way, we’re coming up to the home stretch!

Posted by the Editor: July 15, 2009After an interview with the client, when I give my feedback to the recruiter, I’m always positive, even if I’m not keen on the job or the interviewer. I don’t want to risk being negative and not being shortlisted for another role.
My advice is to always be honest with yourself and your recruiter. Even in this tight job market it is unrealistic to assume that you will be passionate about every role for which you are interviewed. Without your candid feedback, it makes the process of introducing you to an appropriate role even harder. It becomes guess work and your career is too important for that.
Turning down a role that doesn’t interest or suit you is the right thing to do. However, if this becomes a trend, there is an issue. Are you being considered for the right roles? Is your Recruitment Consultant listening to you? Are your objectives clear? You need to ask these questions.
If you are receiving job offers, this shows how marketable you and your skills really are! Let’s make sure it’s with the best role on offer.

Posted by the Editor: July 3, 2009Over the past month or so, Barry Esber has been quietly making inroads into the significant start he has given the leaders. Picking the round and margin last week has certainly helped.
Can he continue this top form?
To make life a little harder on himself, after year end responsibilities are out of the way, Barry will be heading off overseas and will be trying to get his tips in from the `Lebanese Riviera’ and a few Greek Islands. Let’s hope you can get good internet coverage Barry!
