SEEK Ball 2008
Posted by the Editor: June 27, 2008The Internet has changed the way we recruit and SEEK has been an important partner to people2people since we opened our doors. Last Friday SEEK celebrated its success and customer relationships with its annual SEEK ball. This year the theme was Japanese. A good night was had by everyone who attended from people2people.
As you can see below Ward Young from our temporary accounting team and Mandy Judd from onsiite (our RPO brand) seemed to be having a great time.

Posted by the Editor: June 18, 2008At people2people we understand the importance of skills’ testing particularly in relation to the recruitment of Secretarial and Professional Support roles. Our Business Support team test all candidates that register with us.
The market for testing software is very competitive. Recently people2people have formed a partnership with Kenexa.
Utilising their Proveit product, we at people2people have upgraded our testing to accommodate over 900 tests across software, skills and psychological assessments. To view, click Assessment Centre on our Candidate Services page and see how Kenexa have partnered with us to build our very own testing site.

Our initial feedback from candidates has been very good and that the tests are accurate and up to date. Our experience, particularly with the sales and support staff, has been excellent and I would recommend this product to commercial and recruitment companies in Australia.
For more information visit www.proveitoz.com or call the Kenexa office in Melbourne on 03 9225 5444.

Footy Tipping Winner Week 12
Posted by Ward: June 11, 2008Congratulations to Maria Mifsud from Fordland Company who was this week’s winner. With good advice from her husband, Maria has been able to remain competitive in the competition and has sent a warning to her rivals to watch out, especially with a wildcard up her sleeve.

Life is stranger than fiction….
Posted by Lisa: June 6, 2008You know they say that fact is stranger than fiction and they could be right!
Today I had my very own classic soap opera moment. We called a candidate’s referee to do a verbal reference and got a very sharp “I am not prepared to make any comments on that person.” When this happens it sets alarm bells off – why wont the person say anything? What is the problem? And your immediate reaction in this situation is to think – what is wrong with this candidate?
I immediately called the agency who had presented the candidate to me and asked them to investigate. The consultant was floored that something negative had come back about the candidate – after all he is fairly senior and has gone through a rigorous recruitment process! Ten minutes later he called me back and said:
“Lisa, you are not going to believe this. It turns out that the referee ran off with my candidate’s wife; the reason he is now divorced is because this guy shacked up with his wife.”
I couldn’t help it; I laughed. I could not believe that the candidate had nominated this guy as a referee in the first place! I mean – would you nominate as a referee the guy who your wife cheated you with?
At the end of the day, we got a name for someone else who was prepared to give a reference and that was fine – but the candidate’s final comment on it all is still with me. He said:
“I thought that he would have moved on by now; I have!”
Well, it just goes to show – when you are out there in the market you need to:
- Think carefully about who you nominate as a referee – they need to be able to give a relevant, indepth reference on your work
- Check with them before you nominate them to ensure they are happy to give a reference
- Update your resume and referee details periodically.
I am still laughing at the whole situation and thinking ‘and I thought that the plots on Bold & the Beautiful’ were too far-fetched!
